First Ever National Youth Camping and Annual General Meeting

Youth Wing of Ghana National Association of the Deaf(GNAD) has held its first ever National Camping and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 2nd to 8th January, 2017at the Washington View Hotel, Ejisu- Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The event was made possible by GNAD Youth counterparts the Danish Deaf Youth Association (DDU) and its delegates: Andreas Kronlund and Nelli-Sofia Tarvajarvi.

The historic event aimed at creating awareness on deaf issues and to provide a platform for learning and sharing with fun-packed activities. The event saw in attendance 2 representatives from each of the 10 regions with the exception of Upper West which had 6 participants as well as Bechem School for the Deaf and Mampong-Akuapem Senior High/ Technical School for the Deaf with 4 representatives each. Activities include training on leadership and organizational administration, election of national executives, visit to fascinating places in Kumasi and fun games.

To climax the event, election for national executives was conducted. Richard Doku was elected as President while Linda Gibbah was voted as Vice President, and Joseph Osei Adjei won the position of Secretary The rest are Mr. Abdul Shakul Issifu as Treasurer and Mr. Abudu Limani Kazia as Public Relation Officer. Ex-national executives present were; Acting President Mariama Abubakari, Treasurer Stella Kunjan, Public Relation Officer Mr Lamptey Mills, and the project working group Eric Sapey Junior and Charity Gbor.

Our sincere thanks also goes to the Board and the Secretariat of GNAD especially the Executive Director James Sambian and GNAD Boards representatives Robert Ayi Ansah and Patricia Baffoe, as well as the Management of Washington View Hotel for helping to make the event a success.
