SHS Students benefit from education on Decency

Obscenity by any standard could be disadvantageous to one’s upbringing especially pupils/students.  To help educate and empower the Deaf youth on decency, the Ghana National Association of the Deaf Youth Wing together with the Old Students’ Association Senior High/ Technical School for the Deaf in collaboration with FUSAID, a Non-Government Organization in Ghana advocating for the right and inclusion of women, has held a talk on “CAMPAIGN AGAINST INDECENT EXPOSURE; EMPOWERING OUR YOUNG WOMEN”.

The talk was hold on Friday 29th September, 2017 at the Senior High/ Technical School for the Deaf premises, Mampong-Akuapem in the Eastern Region.

The event was facilitated by the GNAD Youth Wing, the guidance and counselling coordinator of the Senior High/ Technical School for the Deaf a member of the Old students’ association and FUSAID Ghana team; which comprised of Fusena Aziz, a Social Entrepreneur, and a journalist in gender issues and also the Executive Director of FUSAID Ghana; Nana Yaa Gyindoh I, the Queen Mother of Elubo Nungua Traditional Area; and a team of volunteers and photographers.

GNAD Youth Wing President Richard Doku advised the students to dedicate their time and attentions to their studies and stay away from sexual intercourse. Executive Director FUSAID Ghana Fusena Aziz entreated the female students in particular to be smart and stay away from behaviours that can tarnish their image and actions that might work against achieving successful dreams. The Queen Mother Nana Yaa Gyindoh I, was emphatic on girl-child education and she used the occasion to speak against inconsequential boy-girl sexual relationship at the Sign High School level. The Queen Mother also stressed that youth should dress the way they want to be addressed as portrayed in our rich Ghanaian Culture, and she advised that students to be decent at all times.

The GNAD Youth Wing would like to take this opportunity to thank the School Administration for allowing the seminar, the FUSAID Ghana team especially Miss Fusena Aziz and Her Royal Highness Nana Yaa Gyindoh I for volunteering to be part of the seminar and the exotic delivery of life changing message to our students. GNAD Youth Wing is also grateful to the old student body of the School   for having time to grace the occasion. We the GNAD Youth Wing executives acknowledge your hard work; we could not have done this without you. It is our hope and prayer significant changes will be made out of this laudable initiative: CAMPAIGN AGAINST INDECENT EXPOSURE; EMPOWERING OUR YOUNG WOMEN to the Deaf youth all over the country.
