The Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD) successfully hosted a vital three-day capacity training on Proposal and Grant Writing, held from October 27th to 29th, 2025, at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre. The training highlights the first and most important step in advancing and sustaining the organisation’s ability to secure funds for its programs and advocacy work for the Deaf community in Ghana and beyond.
The comprehensive training program, led by the Executive Director of GNAD, Mr Juventus Duorinaah, was purposely designed to empower project staff and National Board members with practical, hands-on skills necessary for successful resource mobilisation.
The training moved from a more purely theoretical session to the utilisation of hands-on, participatory methodology to ensure immediate skill transfer. The session offered a deep, practical immersion in the complete Grant Cycle. The Board and staff were equipped to successfully navigate diverse donor environments and understand all eligibility criteria, with specific modules dedicated to mastering the design of effective proposals. Key modules drilled down into the mechanics of effective proposal design included;
The training segment began with needs identification, focusing on problem analysis and identification to define community needs and their underlying causes precisely. This immediately transitioned into goal setting, a critical process centred on establishing SMART Objectives (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) to ensure that project impact is clearly defined and trackable. Participants then progressed to Logical Framework Design, where they developed effective Project Design components, including compelling problem statements, detailed activity outlines, and work plans. The final component was Resource Mobilisation, which provided essential training on Budget Development to create accurate, compelling, and justifiable project budgets that align directly with the planned activities.
A core objective of the workshop was to take immediate action. By the end of the three days, every participant was encouraged to get hands-on experience in the tangible goal of drafting two basic proposals responding to current calls for funding. This immediate application of learning ensures the skills are leveraged right away for the benefit of GNAD’s mission.
The success of the training is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of GNAD’s team in developing basic proposals and concept notes, positioning the organisation for greater impact and long-term financial stability.
